Winter may not seem like the best time to head out for a long motorcycle ride but it can be both essential and appealing to many motorbike owners. For those living and working in the high country and other regions susceptible to frost and snow including much of Tasmania, commuting to work in difficult weather conditions is non-negotiable. For recreational riders, winter can mean clear, crisp air, fewer holidaymakers on country roads and just more time to enjoy their passion.
Riding in winter road conditions requires additional attention, skill, a suitable bike and plenty of the right gear. If you’d like to get properly geared up for winter riding, the timing is excellent for low interest rate motorbike loans. We’re also sharing suggestions on the gear that is recommended and how you may be able to have the cost of that gear included in your overall bike loan.
Cheap Motorcycle Loans
Winter may not be appealing to all riders, but with the current low-interest rate climate, it is the season to reap cheap loan benefits. For private buyers, the most popular loan is our Secured Motorbike Loan. Our Secured Bike Loan is currently out-pricing, in a good way, the competition with our interest rates the cheapest available.
Refer to our lender motorcycle loans interest rate comparisons tool to check out the current market across a range of banks and lenders for motorbike loans. You’ll notice Jade offers a specific motorbike loan, while other lender rates are quoted on different personal loans at either variable or fixed interest rates.
We arrange our secured bike loans at a fixed interest rate. Why is that good? Because it means your motorbike loan repayments will remain at the same fixed level for the entire term of your loan. When interest rates change, there is no change to your loan. If rates do go up while you’re paying off your loan, you don’t have to scramble to switch to a cheaper rate or change your loan. It’s all set.
Extra payments are permitted so if you choose to use say a tax refund or a pay rise to make additional payments on your loan, that’s fine. By making extra payments while still sticking to the required repayment schedule, you’ll finalise the loan sooner and own the bike outright. Minimal break fees do apply when a loan is paid out early on personal loans.
To see how your bike purchase might work out in estimated repayments, just enter the price of the bike plus any extras to make winter riding safer and more comfortable (read on for more info on that point) and the number of years you would like to repay the loan. The repayment estimates will be automatically displayed for all the lenders listed. Looking good? Give us a call for a confirmed quote and to start the application process. If your motorcycle is for use in your business, being distinct from your ride to work, we offer the full range of business finance products: Chattel Mortgage, Commercial Hire Purchase and Leasing. Tax deductions are included in all business loans but the details vary. Check the details of each finance product on our web pages and have a conversation with your accountant as to which offers the best combination of benefits for your operations.
Business owners can currently benefit from temporary full expensing which allows for the full price of depreciable eligible business assets as a tax deduction in the same year the asset was purchased. Chattel Mortgage is the most suitable loan product to realise that tax benefit.
For both personal and business finance, we offer:
- No deposit bike loans so the entire purchase price can be included in the loan amount.
- Pre-approved finance so you can have your loan sorted before purchase. By knowing how much you’ve been approved for, you can narrow down that wish list.
Covering the Costs of Winter Gear
Gearing up properly for winter riding is an important safety aspect of motorcycle riding. If you’re hands, feet or other parts of the body are exposed to extreme cold, the body’s core temperature can drop which can cause hypothermia. It’s not just about being toasty warm it can be about your health.
The cost of extra gear to ensure you are warm and safe during winter can add up. Tip: if you purchase your gear at the same time and from the same dealer as your motorcycle, your Jade consultant may be able to include the costs in your loan.
The type of winter gear recommended by experts include:
- High-quality pants and jacket which are rated for the conditions. Do your research and speak with your bike dealer as to what will suit your budget and conditions.
- Layer up with quality thermal layers as a base. Investing in quality merino and high-tech fabrics can be well worth the cost.
- Select a helmet that won’t let too much air through to make you cold, but sufficient to keep your alert and the face shield unfogged. Consider fitting a chin curtain and breath guards to an existing helmet.
- Select gloves which provide good hand movement as well as proper insulation. Tip: select as high a gram weight of Thinsulate that will still provide proper control of your hands on the controls.
- Most bike riders are smart enough to know investing in a proper pair of bike-riding boots is essential. For winter, make sure yours are waterproof and have sufficient height and sealings to ensure you won’t end up with wet socks and cold feet.
- Heated bike gear is available which is operated by battery. Could be worth considering?
When selecting your bike, also select the extra gear you’ll need while at the bike dealership and speak with your Jade consultant about including that entire amount in your loan. Giving you one simple payment each month to cover all your requirements.
