Italian-style Retro
Perhaps it’s their innate and infamous style, but the Italians manage to make retro not only cool and stylish but incorporate high tech and ergonomics for contemporary riders. The new Moto Guzzi V9s, the Roamer and the Bobber, which have emerged from the factory on the shores of the iconic Lake Como in Italy, bring the retro V7 concept into an exciting high tech package.
Hand-built in the classic heritage style and spirit of the sought-after Italian maker, both the Roamer and Bobber feature the maker’s iconic 850cc transverse V-twin engine but each with its own personality and ride features.
The bikes both feature a similar set of specs but the differences primarily in the front end, deliver the major differences in ride.
With a larger, narrower front wheel diameter, the Moto Guzzi V9 Roamer is the elegant cruiser of the pair, a mid-range machine with a gloss pearl paint scheme, diamond cut rims and distinctive chrome details
While the Bobber has a smaller, yet oversized 130mm front tyre features a traditional matte paint scheme with the mechanical details blacked-out to create distinctive attitude and character.
Superior Style and Quality
With Moto Guzzi holding a leading position in bike innovation since 1921, it’s not surprising that these V9s feature superior tech specs including the company’s continental twin channel Anti Lock Brembo Braking System.
Their advance traction control system, Moto Guzzi Controllo di Trazione, maximises safety by being integrated with the actual engine management system and the Marelli electronic fuel injection system is definitely more now than 70s.
The technology is highlighted best with the multimedia platform, the Moto Guzzi Media Platform (MG-MP), which while an accessory, will likely morph into a must-have for most.
The MG-MP is a Bluetooth module which the rider connects via their smart phone to access a range of functions such as the instrument panel to show vehicle parameters, trip info, navigation and even the owner’s manual for easy reference.
Unique Engine
The Bobber has a solid, robust feel while the Roamer delivers a cruising, more free-feeling to the ride. Both are impressive handlers especially on tight roads with compliant suspension, are low seated 770 mm with good legroom and that unique Moto Guzzi engine.
853cc, 4 valve, 4 stroke, air/oil cooled, 90° V Twin with maximum power claims of 55 hp at 6250 rpm and max torque of 62 Nm at 3000 rpm.
Transmission is 6 speed constant mesh with a dry, single plate clutch, fuel capacity is 15 litres.
